Aims - Promotion of Health and Smoke-Free Environment

Diving South Australia Inc (DSA) is committed to promoting good health and to providing a safe, healthy and accessible environment for all members of the diving community (be they divers, members, coaches or officials).  That commitment extends to taking steps to ensure, to the extent reasonably possibly, that the diving environment is smoke-free.

The Adelaide Aquatic Centre, being the only venue at which Diving South Australia conducts its activities, and which is owned and operated by the Adelaide City Council, is a smoke-free venue.

Commitments by DSA Board

The Board of DSA commits to each of the following (to the extent that it can reasonably exercise control in the various circumstances):

  • not to permit smoking within any indoor areas, official and social functions, event marquees erected and managed by DSA, covered outdoor seating and/or grandstands, and outdoor catering areas (including any dining and bar areas);
  • not to permit smoking to occur within a 10 metre radius of entry/exit points to outdoor venues (eg gateways), seated areas, toilets, change rooms, food outlets, bars, indoor areas, spectator grandstands, all thoroughfares, walkways and playing areas;
  • to make it a condition of the hiring out of any venue/facility that is owned or managed by DSA, that the hirer adheres to this smoke-free policy;
  • to provide and promote designated smoking-permitted areas;
  • not to permit divers, coaches, officials, staff or volunteers to smoke whilst acting in any official capacity, and whilst in uniform or wearing any health promotion clothing;
  • to incorporate this smoke-free policy into the code of behaviour for all divers, coaches and officials;
  • to communicate this smoke-free policy clearly to all members of the diving community; and
  • to review this smoke-free policy annually, to ensure that it remains current and practical.
