Diving SA Member Induction
The purpose of this document is to set a minimum standard for inducting all new members into Diving SA.
The intent of this document is to inform new divers and to ensure that all new divers entering the diving environment understand the risks and hazards associated with diving.
COMMUNICATION
- Please check your folder regularly to access current DSA information.
- If you are unsure of instructions from your coach, please ask for clarification.
- If you /parent /guardian wishes to speak to your coach, please do so before or after training, but not during the training session.
- If you wish to communicate any concerns, please speak to your coach first, if you feel your concern has not been dealt with adequately you can place your concern in writing to the DSA Board.
- If you are not feeling well, inform your coach immediately.
- If you are on medication that may affect your balance or ability to dive, please inform coach before training
- It is recommended that you do not leave valuables in your bag, and be thoughtful where you leave your bag in the interest of the security of your property
- It may be necessary to touch/hold a diver to instruct and assist them in learning a dive. If you feel uncomfortable about this, please tell your coach.
POOL DECK
- Always walk when moving around pool deck area.
- Listen to all directions from your coach.
- If you become aware of any obstructions/hazards on pool deck, report it to your coach immediately.
- Always walk behind coaches when they are training, so we don’t obstruct their view of other divers.
- For safety you should not push another diver into the pool, or wrestle on pool deck.
- For safety you should not flick other people with chamois, towels or other items.
- For safety you should not throw objects in the pool area.
- It is recommended that you get changed in the change rooms at the pool.
DRYLAND TRAINING AREA
- Only ever use the dry land springboard with supervision from a coach.
- Only use climbing rails with supervision from a coach.
- Only jump off boxes onto the mats with supervision from a coach.
- If you notice any hazards in this area, inform a coach immediately.
- It is expected that divers will not use the mats as a recreational lounge area.
SPRINGBOARD AREA
- When you are trying a new dive, an air bubble can be used to assist while you are learning the proficiency of the dive.
- Always walk up stairs to access boards, not around the rails.
- No running around pool deck or diving boards.
- Only one diver at a time will be allowed to dive off a springboard.
- Only jump off a board with approval from a coach or pool deck supervisor.
- For safety, you should not push another diver off a board.
- For safety, you should not interfere with or distract another diver when they are preparing to dive.
PLATFORMS
- When you are trying a new dive, an air bubble can be used to assist while you are learning the proficiency of the dive.
- Always walk up stairs to access platforms.
- Do not run up the stairs.
- Only one diver at a time will be allowed to dive off a platform, unless a coach grants permission.
- Only jump off platform with approval from coach or pool deck supervisor.
- For safety, you should not push another diver off a board.
- For safety, you should not interfere with or distract another diver when they are preparing to dive.
- When you have completed your dive from the platform, please swim back to the edge of the pool directly underneath the platform from which you dived.
SHOWER AREA
- Always walk in the shower area
- Be careful when showering in this area and try not to leave soap or hair products on the floor, it might be slippery
- If you become aware of spilled soap or hair products in this area that make the floor slippery please report to a coach immediately
- Be considerate of water use / wastage
- Please be aware of not spending too much time in the showers during training
TRAMPOLINE
- Only ever use the trampoline with supervision from a coach
- Stay in the middle of the trampoline when using it to train
- If you are unsure of instruction from coach, please ask for clarification.
HARNESS
- Only ever use the harness with supervision of an authorised harness coach
- If you are unsure of instruction from coach, please ask for clarification.
INJURY
- Report all injuries to your Coach immediately
