AT&T FINA USA Diving Grand Prix in Ft Lauderdale
Diving Australia recently sent a group of athletes to the AT&T FINA USA Diving Grand Prix in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, where we saw some promising results from our young, talented Development Squad athletes. The competition ran from May 6 – 9 with a total of 13 countries being represented at the event and some strong fields in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
Jaele Patrick’s performance in the Women’s 3 Metre springboard event was the highlight for the Australian team, qualifying for the final after placing 1st in her semi-final. Jaele who trains at College Station University in Texas, USA performed solidly in all three rounds of the competition with a final placing of 5th. Fellow teammate Olivia Wright also competed in the Women’s 3 Metre springboard event finishing in 21st place after the preliminaries. The girls then teamed up for the Women’s 3 Metre Springboard Synchro event finishing in 7th place.
Rachel Bugg had an impressive performance in the Women’s 10 Metre platform preliminaries which qualified her for the semi -finals. After an interrupted semi due to poor weather, Rachel was unable to regain her form to qualify for the final. Rachel placed 5th in her semi, followed in 6th place by teammate Hannah Thek who produced a solid performance through the preliminary and semi -final round. Rachel and Hannah then teamed up to place 5th in theRe Women’s 10 Metre synchro event.
The Ft Lauderdale Aquatic Complex is an outdoor facility with plenty of sunshine and wind which can even test the very best of our divers!
